A lidar device basically consists of a scanner, a laser, and a special GPS receiver. Airplanes or helicopters are used to collect information from large areas with the help of liders. The laser beam that is lowered through the lider technology is reflected back when it finds an object. And when it finds a tree or a leaf, it hits the ground. With the help of this technology, researchers can see various uneven places on the ground. To the naked eye, it may seem like the ruins of rock.

Archaeologists, with their experienced eyes, verify the information and find various ancient structures, roads, and palaces. Lider technology can also provide accurate information about whether an installation in an environment is natural or man-made.

However, the project was first started by Pacunam, a non-profit organization in Guatemala. Funded financially by the National Center of Airborne Laser Mapping at the University of Houston. The first phase of Pacunam's project was to test experiments using lidar technology in an area of ​​5,000 square miles. And in the first step, a budget of 600,000 (8 million) was set to run this test using lider technology. And the duration of this project is fixed at 3 years.
